    The Hangry Chickpea

    About

Hi there, welcome to The Hangry Chickpea run by sisters, Angela Milnes and Dr Deborah Brunt. We can't wait to show you how to make easy breezy beach food and family meals with plants.

    Angela Milnes and Deborah Brunt.

    Deborah Brunt

As a mother, runner and adventure lover, Deborah loves meals and snacks that are simple and laid-back. You'll find everything from pre-workout smoothie bowls, to hearty dinners, and porch-friendly Mocktails perfect for unwinding from a long day at home, time outdoors (or at the office).

Deborah loves to create Whole Food Plant-Based Recipes for her family of eight and is excited to share her ideas and recipes so you can enjoy the Flexi Vegan Lifestyle too.

    Angela Milnes

Angela Milnes is a Mother, Qualified Teacher and Award Winning Blogger, with experience in both Nutrition and Cooking. Angela has a number of chronic health conditions (Adrenal Insufficiency, Diabetes and Kidney Disease) which lead her to experimenting with a Plant Based Diet. As a Flexi-Vegan Angela enjoys sharing Family Friendly Vegan Recipes and Vegan Lunch Ideas that her husband and daughter love!

    How It All Started

The Hangry Chickpea originally began as a much-needed creative outlet. Both Angela and Deborah love sharing recipes, and thinking creatively about new ways to do things in the kitchen. Being in the kitchen is about going with the flow, and working with what you have.

From meal prep to date nights, cookies and carrot cakes to family dinners, we've seen it all, and we love sharing what we've learned over the years cooking for our families and friends.

    Why Plant-Based?

    For Deborah Brunt

Over the years as a Specialist GP, Deborah developed a love for nutritious cooking and nourishing the body for good health. Almost 20 years ago, she completed a Masters Degree in Health Science – MHSc by thesis: studying the ‘Dietary patterns and iron deficiency in New Zealand children aged 6-23 months' which lead to lifelong interest in healthy eating and cooking.

As a Women's Specialist, Deborah loves to empower women with knowledge and support, helping them make informed decisions about their health, including making healthy decisions when it comes to food. Deborah regularly cooks Healthy Plant Based Recipes for herself and her family.

    For Angela Milnes

After developing serious health conditions, Angela made an effort to eat less processed meals and focus on Whole Food Plant Based Recipes. Whilst Angela enjoys several non vegan ingredients, she sees every plant-based meal as a win for our planet and loves being a Flexi-Vegan.

Angela enjoys the creativity involved in developing and creating plant based meals. There's almost always a way to create a vegan spin on a dish, and it doesn't have to involve 34 extra steps & a pantry full of special ingredients.

But enough about how we got into plant-based cooking...

    Outside The Kitchen...

When she is not working or whipping up a quick snack or meal in the Kitchen, Deborah loves to run, hike, swim and ski. She loves the beach and the outdoors.

Angela on the other hand spends most of her time in the home, loves working on her websites, developing new recipes and spending time with her family. When health permits, Angela loves to travel to the North Island of New Zealand to visit her parents.

We are so happy you're here! Kick off your sandals, and let's get cooking!
